9 Easy Ways To Stop Being Lazy And Get Things Done

Laziness is one of those things that gets us when we really have to do something important. We always think that we have plenty of time to complete the task. But when the deadline is around the corner we start to freak out and panic, then try to complete whatever we had to do.
Does this sound familiar? I think yes. At least once in a life, we all had that “ooh, I have plenty of time to do that, I’ll just watch a TV show instead” or some similar thoughts.

The thing is that there is always an easier way – to do nothing. If some task or event is not very urgent we delay it until the last minute.
Why? There are a few reasons:

  • We do not want to do it, because of the lack of information/knowledge;
  • Afraid to fail while doing it, so delaying this feeling of failing to the future;
  • Not knowing how to plan your time, not prioritizing the tasks;
  • Not having will power and determination;

So these are a few things that could be why we are delaying things sometimes. I am sure there is much more of it, but I choose the ones that seemed most relevant for myself. I will now provide 12 easy ways that can help you with your laziness and how to stop it. Some of then really helped me, I hope it will help you too.

  1. Divide the task into smaller tasks
    Sometimes big projects can really look challenging, but dividing it into smaller tasks can really help to look at it from a different perspectives. Everyday doing one task of many will give a great feeling of completing something and every day you will be getting closer to completing it
  2. Plan your tasks
    This one is similar to the first one, but planning all of your works and tasks will reduce stress levels of not controlling the situation. Seeing every task marked in the calendar will make you feel calmer and everyday you will be sure of what you have to do.

  3. Reward yourself
    After completing task always make sure to reward yourself even with a small thing like your favorite cup of coffee or a candy bar. This way you will feel like a winner and after some time you will get used to getting something after completing a task, which could be a very nice motivation of doing your works faster.
  4. Do not be afraid to ask for help
    If you see that you have got a task that is very difficult and that is why you are delaying of doing it. If you don’t know how to do it correctly don’t be afraid to ask for help for your colleague or person who is very good in that field, there is no doubt they would help you and next time you will be able to do it on your own. Also people like to show what they know, so your colleagues will be very satisfied that they could helped you.
  5. Avoid distractions
    Especially nowadays we have a lot of distractions in our daily life: phones, tablets, computers, video games, TV shows, YouTube and etc. Sometimes it sounds much more pleasant to watch a TV or play a game that doing a boring task. So try to remove all of the distractions from your surroundings while doing important tasks and try to use those distractions as a reward system after finishing your job.
  6. Do your most important task in the morning
    In the morning we are the most energized, full of new ideas and determination to do the best that we can in any task that we are given. Try to plan your most difficult tasks in the morning and from then it will just go easier. After completing the most difficult one in the morning you will feel relief and be much more relaxed during the day.
  7. Do breaks
    If you are sitting down and working on your project for 4 hours straight it is very likely that you are already fed up with it and feeling irritated or even want to quit it for good. But just stand up and have a 20 minute walk or sit down in the kitchen and have a cup of coffee. During this time don’t have any job related thoughts. After this break you will be feeling refreshed and work much more productively an hour or two.
  8. Be active
    Sometimes you don’t want to do anything simply because you are out of energy. And exercising for a 10-15 minutes, just stretching out can really make you feel a boost of energy. This is one of the simplest ways of how you can make yourself energized instantly and get your things done quicker.
  9. Try not to overeat
    This one is very interesting I guess, because it is very different from the other tips you have already read. But I find this one very helpful. Some people deal with stress or anxiety with eating food, they eat their most loved dishes or sweats, and most of the time they eat too much of it. This way they start to feel very sleepy because the stomach is now processing all the food that just now came in. At this point, they are really not in a working mood and are feeling a lack of energy.
    So try to eat and be conscious about it, try to avoid any distractions, and concentrate on food only. You will be full much faster and consume less food aaaand be much more productive.

So these are my top 9 easy tips on how you can help yourself if you are miserable with your work, tasks, or any other projects. All of those tips I used in my daily life at least a few times and some of them already became my daily routine.

I hope it was helpful and you found some ideas that you can try to experiment in your daily life!

See you on the next post!
